Musical instruments have been made from a variety of materials, with tools, technology and the availability of resources changing over the centuries.

From animal bone and skin thousands of years ago to wood and metal, technological advancements such as electronic instrument design and 3D printing have made the possibilities of what and how instruments can be made ever-increasing.

The Craft of Music explores the craft of musical instrument making, featuring exquisite pieces made by British and local craftspeople. Discover the different materials and varying approaches used by makers.

Linked to this exhibition we are delighted to have talks and performances from Sonophilia Festival, Lincolnshire’s Celebration of Sound. Come and find out how craft influences the sound of music.
