A series of creative dance sessions focusing on building confidence in dance by experimenting with making movement. Classes will involve a variety of activities both led by the facilitator and through individual creative opportunities for participants. Sessions will champion physical activity, creativity, social inclusion, friendship, and teamwork within a safe and supportive environment. Please note, support from a guardian/support worker is advised to participate.

There will be 4 weekly creative dance sessions lasting 40 minutes each. The classes will be available via Vimeo from September for you to access in your own time. This can be done as a group in a communal area of your centre or individually at home.

As this is a funded project it is completely FREE for all. We aim to offer a fun way of exploring dance and movement whilst encouraging activity, exercise and creativity.

Who is it for:

  • Those in day centres/assisted living facilities
  • Individuals
  • Local and Community Support Groups

What will you need:

  • A TV/computer/screen that has internet access (it may be possible to access the videos via DVD if needed)
  • Suitable space to move in. This doesn’t need to be large but so participants can move safely without bumping into anything.
  • Room lay out so participants can see and hear the video and ideally see one or two others from the group. This could be with dancers in a semi-circle around the screen or spaced out in the centre of the space depending on the room.
  • Staff/carer/guardian support to help assist dancers to adapt movements to suit their body, offer encouragement and check safe practice.

What we will provide:

  • 4x creative dance videos (each video will be 40 minutes in length).
  • Videos will be shared via Vimeo and will remain accessible to you up until December 2020 so classes can be repeated several times or used with different groups of participants. Please contact us if you would like the videos on DVD.
  • Staff/guardian training session via Zoom as an introduction to the classes for carers. The training will cover how to best support the participants, space set up, best practice in a dance context, safe warm up/cool down, creative opportunities, technical support and FAQs.
  • Support via email/phone
