Join Heritage Lincolnshire and the National Centre for Craft and Design with your tutor Nicki, online, for a craft course learning and making your own English Pieced Paper Patchwork - Pincushion.
Discover the basics of this centuries-old technique for making your own personalised and decorative fabric from scraps. No sewing machine required.
During the session you will learn:
- History of pieced paper patchwork – from the UK to the US
- How to plan a pattern
- How to use fabrics for decorative effect (contrast, colour, shape)
- Simple patchwork construction
- Making a small sample patchwork
- Transforming the sample patchwork into a pincushion
You will have a craft kit delivered to you prior to the course, including paper for making ‘pieces’, 2 x prepared card templates, cotton fabrics for patchwork top and underside, polyester wadding for stuffing pincushion, a needle and thread plus one of Nicki’s handmade ceramic buttons.
Participants will need to supply a pencil, and scissors for cutting fabric/thread. Access to an iron would be useful but isn’t vital.
It is recommended that participants have a basic ability to sew running stitch. The activity is aimed at patchwork absolute beginners.
Bookings will close 30th April to ensure the kits get to you in time for the session.
