Suitable for older adults and/or those who have restricted mobility or limited space at home. Aimed at those who have been isolated during lockdown due to ill health, age and living situation.

There will be 6 weekly seated dance sessions lasting 30 minutes each. The classes will be available via Vimeo from September for you to access in your own time. This can be done as a group in Care Home communal areas or individually at home.

As this is a funded project it is completely FREE for all. We aim to offer a fun way of exploring dance and movement whilst encouraging activity, exercise and creativity.

Who is it for:

  • Care Home Residents
  • Individuals at home
  • Dance for Parkinson’s Groups
  • Local and Community Support Groups (ie. Parkinson’s UK, Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Cafes)

What will you need:

  • A TV/computer/screen that has internet access (it may be possible to access the videos via DVD if needed)
  • Suitable chairs to dance in (back supported and feet comfortably touching the floor where appropriate)
  • Room lay out so residents can see and hear the video and ideally see one or two others from the group. This could be with chairs in a semi-circle around the screen or spaced out in the centre of the space depending on the room.
  • Staff support to help assist residents to adapt movements to suit their body, offer encouragement and check safe practice.

What we will provide:

  • 6x seated dance videos (each video will be 30 minutes in length).
  • Videos will be shared via Vimeo and will remain accessible to you up until December 2020 so classes can be repeated several times or used with different groups of residents. Please contact us if you would like the videos on DVD.
  • Staff training session via Zoom as an introduction to the classes for carers and care home workers. The training will cover how to best support the participants, space set up, best practice in a seated dance context, safe warm up/cool down, creative opportunities, technical support and FAQs.
  • Support via email/phone
  • The seated dance sessions will focus on getting the body moving, opening the joints and working the muscles. Classes will help build stamina, co-ordination and flexibility whilst offering a fun and relaxed dance experience.
